Liu Wenxian

Dr. Wen-Xian Liu now serves as an Associate Professor in the College of Pastoral Agriculture Science and Technology, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou. He did his B. Sc and M. Sc in Agronomy at Northwestern Agriculture and Forestry University, Yangling working on genetic diversity analysis in natural populations of Psathyrostachys huashanica Keng. He obtained his Ph.D. in Developmental Biology (plant) from the Institute of Botany, The Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing, where he studied the molecular mechanism of gene expression regulation and oil synthesis in rice seed.

He then moved to the Institute of Plant Protection, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science, Beijing for his postdoctoral research and worked on the molecular mechanism of protein elicitor PevD1 on disease resistance in tobacco. He had visited and studied in the New Zealand Pastoral Agriculture Research Institute and Tottori University Japan in 2014 supported by the “New Zealand-China Scientist Exchange Programme” and “SAKURA Exchange Program in Science”, respectively, and visited in Zengyu Wang’s lab at Noble Research Institute, Oklahoma, USA as a visiting scholar for one year from 2018-2019. Dr. Liu’s current research is focused on the development of molecular markers and germplasm evaluation of alfalfa and common vetch, and also interested in the understanding of the key gene functions that control important aspects of plant growth and development in Medicago truncatula and alfalfa using genetics, genomics, molecular and cell biology approaches. He has published over 30 research papers including Theoretical and Applied Genetics, Molecular Breeding, Plant Cell Reports, and Frontiers in Plant Science etc.
