Qingyang Pastoral Agriculture Science Research Station

　　Qingyang Pastoral Agriculture Science Research Station was founded in October 1981 by Professor Jizhou Ren, who is the member of Chinese Academy of Engineering and the founder of pasture science in China. The station was originally affiliated with Gansu Grassland Ecological Research Institute. In April 2002, it was merged into Lanzhou University along with the institute. In 2009, the station was approved as an agriculture and forestry field practice base belonging to the Ministry of Education. Many research works were conducted under the leadership of senior scientists, such as academicians Jizhou Ren and Zhibiao Nan. These studies emphasize the coupling production of grain and forage crops, the agriculture production pattern optimization by introducing pasture and livestock into the traditional system, and the soil and water conservation practices. Results of the studies was demonstrated to local famers, and the activity and achievements were praised by provincial and national newspapers for many times.
　　In the station long-term in-site observation and data collection are performed on soil, climate, biological, ecological, environmental and social economy in arid and semi-arid areas. In addition, technology demonstration and extension, practice teaching of Pastoral Agriculture Science undergraduates are also undertaken in this station. Most importantly, workers in the station has developed close cooperation with scientist from Australia, Canada, UK and Belarus, which largely improved the levels of works conducted in the station. It is now one of the most important agricultural scientific research and practice teaching bases of Lanzhou University, and has shown certain international influences.
　　The station occupies experiment field of 13.3 ha, including long-term conservation tillage rotation field, forage-crop rotation field, excellent forage introduction exhibiting area, orchard-forage-livestock coupling system field and livestock feeding test stall, etc. Some advanced experimental devices, such as weather and eddy covariance station, artificial rainfall simulator, soil moisture automatic measuring system, soil respiration automatic measuring system, N2O automatic observation system, canopy analysis system and leaf area meter, are equipped in this station. Besides, there are many kinds of agriculture machineries, including tractors, seeding machine, reaping machine, lawn mower, dropper system, etc.
　　In the station there is a multifunctional building of 900 m2. Laboratory, office, conference room, classroom and dormitory are set up in it. The perfect software and hardware conditions can promise a comfortable accommodate for more than 100 people to work and study there. We believe with the hard working by all researchers and managers and the support from government and Lanzhou University, the station will become an outstanding, world-class pastoral agriculture science experiment station.
